She has been an active member of her university community and has played a significant role in engaging her fellow students towards change. New to AIDemocracy, Vannessa hopes to learn a lot from this position. She looks forward to enhancing her leadership skills by organizing student movements and utilizing the driving forces of Social Media to promote change. She is interested in International Development, specifically in regards to the issues of poverty, climate, and hunger. In May of 2011, Vannessa sailed on the first ever Short-Term Semester at Sea Voyage, which was based on the UN Millennium Development Goals. This voyage, as well as her numerous service visits to countries in Central America, have sparked her interest for the MDGs and more broadly for the field of International Development. At the Millennium Campus Conference at Harvard University, she witnessed first-hand the power of young, student leaders working together towards positive change and global development. She is excited to join the AIDemocracy team and to continue mobilizing students to create a better tomorrow.
