This is Youngeun Nam from South Korea. Originally interested in social inequalities, I put myself into an airplane at the age of 17. Last winter, I filmed a documentary on female genital mutilation in Kenya, Uganda and Ethiopia. This is the ultimate reason that I joined AIDemocracy: I learned that students can speak up for world matters and that they should do so as the future leaders of our society. Quirky fact about myself? I eat bread with ketchup, and I love it!

Female genital mutilation: enduring challenge as world population reaches 7 billion

Three million. This is an approximate number of African girls who are at risk of undergoing female genital mutilation, for short FGM, in 28 African countries. This cultural practice circumcises clitoris and/or major and minor labia on African girls from an age of 7 days to 18 years old depending on their tribes.
