Directions to Global Scholar

Global Scholar is held at Washington and Lee University, nestled in the Blue Ridge and Alleghany Mountains of Lexington, Virginia, just a few hours outside of Washington, DC.

Lexington is located at the intersection of Interstates 81 and 64. Washington and Lee is less than two miles from the interstate.

Driving Directions to Washington and Lee

Registration will take place between 12:00 noon and 4:30 p.m. on June 28th at the Early Fielding Buliding on Washington Street.

Directions from Washington, DC (North)

Take Interstate 66 West to the Interstate 81 junction.

Take Interstate 81 South to the third (3rd) Lexington exit (188B).

This will bring you to Route 60 West.

Continue down Route 60 towards Lexington. You will go through seven (7) stop lights (Route 60 will be called Nelson Street through Lexington).

At the last stop light (the intersection of Nelson Street and Lee Ave) you will notice the Post Office on the left corner. Turn right on Lee Ave and go to the end of the block, where you will see a large stone church straight ahead of you and the side entrance of the Early Fielding building is on your left. Turn left and park in the designated 2 hour spaces on the right side of Washington St. The entrance to Early Fielding Building (where registration is being held) is on the left side of Washington St. You have arrived!

Directions to Parking Lot from Early Fielding: Continue on Washington Street, which bears left down a hill to Nelson Street (60 East). Turn right, and then immediately right again up a hill to the university parking lot.

Directions from Roanoke (South)

Take Interstate 81 North until you get to Lexington exit 188B, then follow the above directions.

Flying

If you are not within driving distance, please plan to fly into the Roanoke Regional Airport, which is about fifty miles south of Lexington. US Airways, United, Northwest, and Delta serve the Roanoke Valley. Global Scholar will shuttle students from the airport to Washington and Lee on June 28th and July 12th. Please try to schedule your arrival to Roanoke by 3:00 p.m. on the 28th. Departing flights on the 12th should be scheduled no earlier than 4 p.m. Please email kathleen@aidemocracy.org if you are having trouble scheduling your flight within these parameters.

Amtrak

Amtrak serves Staunton, Virginia, which is located about thirty miles north of Lexington on I-81. Global Scholar is offering a free shuttle from Staunton to Washington and Lee University for students who arrive before 3:00 p.m. on June 28th, and depart after 4:00 p.m. on July 12th.
