OneVoice Summit and Echo Rally Bridge Event

Have you ever watched footage of the Civil Rights Movement’s March on Washington and wondered when our generation would have an opportunity to make history?

NOW IS OUR CHANCE!

One Million Voices to End the Conflict is taking place in Tel Aviv and Jericho on October 18th, 2007. On that day for the first time in history, hundreds of thousands of Israelis and Palestinians will take to the streets at the same time with a unified demand to their respective political leaders: they want negotiations to start now. At the same time across the world, a groundswell of support echoing their message will take the form of large-scale events, meet-ups, performances and media blitzes. The immediate goal of the OneVoice Echo is to garner international support both at the grassroots and policy-making levels for the will of the moderate majority in both Israel and Palestine for immediate negotiations between the Israeli and Palestinian governments leading to a two-state solution and an end to the occupation.

The Echo is Everywhere

The kickoff Echo events in the U.S. and Canada will be part of One Million Voices To End the Conflict and will take place simultaneous with the mobilizations of OneVoice Israel and OneVoice Palestine. In Washington, DC, American students will gather together after our activists fill the streets of Israel and Palestine to “echo” that message in front of the U.S. capitol, demanding that their leaders take notice pressure Israeli and Palestinian leaders to heed the call of the moderate majorities on both sides for a two-state solution and an end to occupation and terror.

From that day on, students in major urban centers in North America, Europe, and Canada will hold city-wide Echo concerts, conferences and rallies to call attention to progress being made on the ground and to encourage student groups to affiliate with OneVoice as a way to work across political divides on campus. Boston, Irvine, New York, London, Calgary, Chicago, and other cities will participate. Local and national student groups such as Students for Peace, local Muslim Student Associations and Hillels, international groups such as Global Youth Service Day, and Israeli and Palestinian organizations like Parents Circle/Families Forum are coming together to make these events happen.

WASHINGTON, DC ECHO RALLY HAS BEEN CHANGED

The One Million Voices People’s Summit, also known as the Echo Rally, that was to amplify the voices of the majority of Israelis and Palestinians for a peaceful two-state solution will not occur on October 18th in Jericho due to real security concerns; the Israeli summit has been cancelled in solidarity.  London has also been cancelled and Washington, DC, has craeted an alternative event. Separate summits will occur in Boston, LA Metro Area, and Northern California.  We encourage each of you to attend any of these events or start one of your own! More informatin on the Washington, DC, event and Boston ECHO can be found below.

If you have received a Travel Mini-Grant we will honor your trip to Washington, DC, if you attend the event at Malcolm X Park OR you can contact Vicente to discuss how to proceed.

As a result of the postponement of the One Million Voices Jericho and Tel Aviv events, it is even more imperative that we in the international community convey the real grassroots fervor for immediate negotiations leading to a resolution to the conflict that is growing among Israelis and Palestinians. In Ottawa, students, politicians and religious authorities will stand on Parliament Hill with a strong message for international support for empowering the grassroots in the Middle East. In Irvine, California and in Aberdeen, Scotland students and community members will gather to show their support for OneVoice's Israeli and Palestinian volunteers. In Boston, students from all the universities will gather to be a part of the Echo. In Calgary, students inspired by the idea of One Million Voices to End the Conflict are having a public meeting to raise awareness about peace initiatives.

We're still standing strong. It is more important than ever that you join us.
