Hello! I am Jesse, a sophomore in high school. I do policy debate and do a lot of research on America’s military presence in Afghanistan Iraq and Japan. A Winnable War? A brief overview
Counter-Insurgency or COIN, is a military strategy premised on nation building. The core principles rely on getting the support of the people, establishing a legitimate government than can protect itself, and using the local populations’ desire for stability to fight insurgents. Will America Be the Soviet Union of the 21st Century?
Recently another milestone was reached in the Afghanistan war, our occupation has surpassed that of the Soviet Union (1979-1989) in length. This fact understandably causes people to wish for the US to get out of Afghanistan before our empire ends up like the Soviet Union.
