jose-reymondez José Reymóndez is a candidate for, an M.A. candidate for a degree in International Affairs with a concentration in development. He is fascinated by the political economic issues surrounding and hopefully solutions to climate change. He often wonders why something as simple as maintaining the one thing every living thing needs, the earth and its environment, somehow doesn’t seem to be going as well as it could. Prop 26 Passes in California

Part of the difficulty of our advanced democracy is that it is not clear cut. If you look at my previous post, it was mentioned that oil companies had switched their campaign money from proposition 23, which was straightforward and attracted retaliatory attention, to proposition 26. Proposition 26 involves what can be a nebulous set of rules to the average voter yet still asks the voter to decide on how to set these rules. Proposition 23: California Votes Today!

One of the many reasons Americans are so dependent on oil is that oil companies really like what they do and want to keep doing it. As long as everything that we like doing is fueled by what they produce, then they can continue doing what they want. One good thing about our democracy is the first amendment, freedom of speech. It allows the oil industry to express its opinions on how we should keep doing lots of things and make sure we use oil to energize those things.
