We help students understand key issues in environment, development, peace and security and health, as well as the global system that frames these issues. Specific tactics include issue training (issue briefs, coaching, webinars, toolkits, videoconferences, film screenings, speaker tours, etc.) and issue monitoring (blogs, new media and student Issue Analysts).
Tools to Learn the Issues
- Film Library: Whether launching a student organization or just trying to spread awareness about an issue on campus, AIDemocracy’s film library is a great resource. Learn more about our film library and how you can utilize it.
- Webinars: As part of our efforts to educate students about global issues and train student leaders and organizers, we offer free webinars throughout the year.
- Issue Briefs: Our issue briefs provide an in-depth look at all the issues we focus on at AIDemocracy. Check back soon for a complete list of issue briefs!
- Blog: AIDemocracy’s blog provides a wide variety of stories on global issues, with a focus on how they relate to current events.
Issues We Cover
As a network of young people in the US, we are taking informed action around our individual and collective roles as global citizens. A distinguishing characteristic of AIDemocracy is our emphasis on the interconnectedness of global issues. We fight for nuclear nonproliferation or funding for climate adaptation, for example, because they are also a means to ending poverty and empowering women.
Our Student Campaign Teams run our work on our priority issues for 2011-12:
- Climate change
- Hunger
- Sex & Justice
- Security
- Be2021 (tenth anniversary of 9/11)
Issues are chosen based on a poll of our network every spring.
