Q: How do I confirm my spot? A. Once you apply, within two weeks you should receive an email confirming your spot at the summit. Q: Do you provide housing? Where can I stay? A: While we do not provide housing, we can point you in the right direction. We recommend: Astor's Museum Hostel is very nearby and offers conference participants a rate of £17pppn in 10-bed dorms and £20pppn in 4-bed dorms. Generator Hostel is in the center of London, as well as nearby the conference site and charges £25pppn Friday and Saturday night in3-6 bed dorms, and £20pppn on Sundays for the same.
Q: How do I get to the conference? A: The conference is taking place at the Syracuse Centre’s Faraday House at 48 Old Gloucester Street in downtown London on April 18-20, 2008. You can click here to see a picture of this building and a map or click here to see additional information about the Centre. The closest Tube stops are Russell Square and Holborn. Q: Are there any scholarships available for travel? A: Unfortunately, we do not have funding to cover participants' travel costs. But some participants in the past have asked their study abroad or international programs office at their U.S. university to support their travel and they have received varying amounts of support. We encourage you to contact your U.S. university to check into this opportunity. Q: What is the dress code? A: Dress for the conference is casual to business casual. Q: What is the weather like in London in late April? A: April is one of the driest months for London (a wet place to begin with!), and temperatures range from 42°F (6°C) to 57°F (14°C). You might enjoy wonderful sunny weather but then it might be equally cold and wet! Bring a good mix of clothing – a sweater and overcoat for the coldest days... and short sleeves for warmer days. You probably won't need your shorts and summer gear, though – bring some rainwear in case you’re unlucky. Q: Do you have any travel tips for flights, trains, etc? A: For travel within Europe, check out Easy Jet for cheap flights, the Chunnel train from mainland France to the UK, or the national train sites for the UK or France. For those flying into London, check out airport directions according to your airport: London City Airport, London Heathrow, or London Gatwick Be prepared when you arrive in London with a map of London, a Tube or Bus map, or even plan your journey ahead of time.
