From September 8 through October 12, Americans for Informed Democracy will orchestrate 30 town hall meetings from the East Coast to the West Coast as part of their "Hope not Hate" series, which sponsors discussion about the relations between the United States and the Muslim World. Free and open to all, the town meetings will offer a place for dialogue between citizens and a bi-partisan coalition of members of Congress, ambassadors, journalists, scholars, and military officers. The series will culminate on October 12 with a virtual "face to face" conversation between student leaders at six American institutions and six universities in the Muslim world via videoconferencing technology.

"Hope not Hate" was conceived on the second anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 as a way to construct bridges of understanding and tolerance between America's Muslim and non-Muslim community and, by extension, between the United States and the greater Muslim World. As part of a broader effort to encourage Americans to engage in U.S. foreign policy discussion, several non-profit organizations have united to sponsor the series, including the Open Society Institute, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, and the United Nations Foundation. Support also comes from the Families of September 11.
