Deron Lovaas, the director of the Oil Security Campaign with the Natural Resources Defense Council, will be the featured speaker today at a town hall meeting at the University of Florida to talk about steps students and others can take to reduce America's dependence on foreign oil.

The event, sponsored by the Conservation Biology Society and Americans for Informed Democracy, aims to shed light on the role local communities should play in helping protect life on Earth amid a changing global environment.

The presentation is called: "Securing America: Solving Our Oil Dependence Through Innovation." The floor will be opened up for questions following the speech.

The event is free and open to the public and begins at 1:15 p.m. in the Communicore Building, lecture hall C1-7.
