We’re hiring! Global Health Fellow

Are you a student interested in global health? Do you believe that students have both the power and the obligation to speak out about global challenges like maternal health, HIV/AIDS and malaria? Americans for Informed Democracy is accepting applications from inspired, globally conscious students who are interested in getting hands-on experience educating and mobilizing youth around these issues.

The Health Fellow will work closely with our student-driven campaign team mobilizing our national network around these issues. Specific tasks will include supporting our student campaign team, monitoring and writing about the issues, and planning national-level advocacy and events. The Fellow will also build partnerships with partner organizations, and attend relevant events either in person or online (depending on Fellow’s location).

Our vision is that every young person in the United States exercises their power to bring about a peaceful, healthy, just and sustainable world. We educate, cultivate and mobilize young people to take informed action around our individual and collective roles as global citizens.

Responsibilities:

• Help young people understand the issues. This involves monitoring key conversations, writing blog posts, developing toolkits and fact sheets, contributing to our social media, etc.;
• Support our student campaign team working on these issues. This involves helping them identify and organize national-level advocacy around key moments and decisions, for example the 2012 budget;
• Provide general administrative and logistical support to the campaign team and the organization;
• Assist with website and other communications and outreach tasks;

Skills and qualifications:

• Strong familiarity with global health issues, and interest in current policy and funding debates;
• Excellent written and oral communications skills;
• Strong organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail;
• Ability to work both independently and in teams;
• Experience organizing students, doing advocacy, or working on social justice issues a plus.

This is a part or full-time position; minimum commitment is 15 hours/week. Duration is negotiable, but must be for at least four months. Start date is flexible, although no later than January 23, 2012. Position is virtual (so yes you can do it from anywhere!), although there will be regular virtual meetings with other staff, coalitions, and partners. This is an unpaid position, although Intern will be eligible for numerous training opportunities.
