AIDemocracy is looking for applications from inspired, globally conscious students to lead our work on food security for the 2011-12 academic year. The Communications Guru will direct our use of print and new media around this issue, including blogs, Facebook and Twitter. Other team members will include the team Coordinator, Issue Analysts and Communications Gurus.
AIDemocracy is a national student network that mobilizes young people around global issues. Our vision is that young people in the United States exercise their power to bring about a peaceful, healthy, just and sustainable world.
Communications Guru responsibilities include:
• Identifying, building and maintaining the best communications tools to share campaign information and inspire youth to action.
• Leading the creation of blogs, videos, tweets, etc.
• Working with other team members, in particular Issue Analysts, to produce content.
• Building relationships with bloggers and media outlets as necessary.
Skills and qualifications:
• Excellent communications and writing skills.
• Excellent new media skills.
• Experience working with students / campaigns seeking social change.
• Great sense of youth culture, and images / approaches that resonate with youth.
• Ability to work both independently and in teams.

This is a part time volunteer position based anywhere. Communications Guru will work between 8-12 hours/month, potentially up to 15 in the early months. Term is summer 2011-May 2012. The Guru will work on a student team, and have access to ongoing training opportunities and support from AIDemocracy staff.
