Opportunity: Security Campaign Team “What’s It To Me?” Blogger

Are you excited to talk about global issues with your peers? Then help build the link between global and local issues as a What’s It To Me? blogger! Bloggers will write monthly posts exposing the links between a specific global issue related to nuclear nonproliferation, global governance and/or genocide and the United States. Their job is to bring these global issues, which can sometimes seem very distant, back to a local level, highlighting how they impact local communities. Posts will be published on the AIDemocracy website, and they may also be published in the Stanley Foundation’s monthly newsletter ”think.” What’s It To Me? Bloggers will act as part of the AIDemocracy Security Campaign Team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring key conversations and debates
  • Producing interesting and engaging commentary and analysis, linking global events to the United States and their local communities

Skills and qualifications:

  • Excellent communications and writing skills
  • Excellent new media skills
  • Experience working with students / campaigns seeking social change
  • Great sense of youth culture and conversations / trends that resonate with youth
  • Ability to work both independently and in teams

You’ll like this position if you:

  • Believe that students have the power to affect change
  • Enjoy coming up with creative ways to communicate information

This is a part time volunteer position based anywhere. The Blogger will work between 8-10 hours/month, potentially more in the early months. Term is summer 2011-May 2012. The Blogger will work on a student team, and have access to ongoing training opportunities and support from AIDemocracy staff.
