Opportunity: Security Campaign Team Coordinator

Ready to ramp up your leadership skills? Interested in playing a key leadership role in a national youth campaign working on peace and security issues such as US engagement in Iraq and Afghanistan and nuclear weapons? Then we need you!

Americans for Informed Democracy (AIDemocracy) is looking for applications from inspired, globally conscious students to lead our work on Security for the 2011-12 academic year. The Security Campaign Team Coordinator will recruit, support and inspire a team of 4-8 students working on this issue. Other team members will include Issue Analysts, Communications Gurus and Organizers.

Americans for Informed Democracy (AIDemocracy) is a national student network that mobilizes young people around global issues. Our vision is that young people in the United States exercise their power to bring about a peaceful, healthy, just and sustainable world.

Coordinator responsibilities include:

  • Helping set strategy for the campaign, identifying key conversations and opportunities for action
  • Ensuring campaign objectives are clear and measurable
  • Tracking campaign progress, and leading strategy shifts throughout the year as necessary
  • Helping recruit, support and motivate other team members

Skills and qualifications:

  • Excellent communications and writing skills
  • Excellent new media skills
  • Experience working with students / campaigns seeking social change
  • Great sense of youth culture, and conversations / trends that resonate with youth
  • Ability to work both independently and in teams
  • Prior strategic planning experience is not necessary; a desire to learn and lead is.

This is a part-time volunteer position based anywhere. Coordinator will work between 8-10 hours/month, potentially more in the early months. Term is summer 2011-May 2012. The Coordinator will work on a student team, and have access to ongoing training opportunities and support from AIDemocracy staff.
