Oxford students had a chance to speak to tsunami victims in a live video conference on Wednesday. Alongside students from nine other UK and US Universities, the group spoke to senior Sri Lankan officials, including Mr Lalith Weeratunga, Secretary to the Prime Minister, and a member of the Government ‘s reconstruction task force, as well as ordinary citizens affected by the disaster. The initiative was arranged by Americans for Informed Democracy. The President of the organisation’ s , Katie Bach, said that the event was organised in the hope that face-to-face contact between British, American and Sri Lankan citizens and officials will help to promote a principled and committed western response to this and future tragedies.
