Charlie Harris – Midwest Regional Coordinator

charlie-harris Charlie is a senior at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY and has been organizing around social justice issues since high school. As part of the original leadership team of the WKU chapter of AIDemocracy founded in 2007, he has organized against poverty and hunger, run voter registration drives, lobbied on legislation to end poverty and provide primary school education around the world, and helped win the ONE Campaign Campus Challenge & the title of “Most Globally Active and Aware Campus in the nation” for WKU. Charlie has also served as a Campus Outreach Ambassador for the ONE Campaign and as an Oxfam America CHANGE Leader. He is very interested in the role in which Social Media can affect change, help organize movements, and build a better world. He is most interested in issues of Global Development, and will be focusing a lot on the move to reform US Foreign Assistance this year.

Advocacy in Action, Farm Animal Stunt at the MDG Summit

So this past weekend I had the privilege of traveling as part of the AIDemocracy delegation to the Millennium Campus Conference in New York City, which coincided with the important Millennium Development Goals Summit happening at the UN. The conference brought together young activists around advocating for the achievement of the MDGs by 2015. WKU "Hilltoppers" Advocate for Jobs, Development, and SKA in Africa

In my previous post I introduced you to our AID Chapter at Western Kentucky University, and told you about our work on Foreign Assistance Reform. I failed to mention our other large focus this past semester, how silly of me! This Spring we worked with a Professor, Dr. Saundra Ardrey, to create a course called "Grassroots Resistance in the 20th/21st Century."
